Other Appliances
When used at the right time, additional orthodontic appliances such as expanders or bite correctors can help guide growth, create space, and address specific bite or airway concerns. At Shore Orthodontics, every treatment plan is carefully tailored so these appliances provide significant benefits tailored for you.
Other Orthodontic Appliances
Orthodontic appliances can play an important role in guiding jaw development, creating space, and correcting specific bite concerns at the right time. Used selectively and with careful planning, they can support healthy growth and improve the effectiveness of treatment where needed. At Shore Orthodontics, we recommend additional appliances only when appropriate, with treatment tailored to each patient’s stage of development and overall orthodontic needs.
Expanders
Expanders are used to widen the upper jaw where needed, most commonly in growing children. They can help create space, improve the way the upper and lower teeth fit together, and support healthy jaw and airway development.
Space Maintainers
Space maintainers are used when a baby tooth is lost earlier than expected and space needs to be preserved for the adult tooth to erupt properly. They help reduce the risk of neighbouring teeth drifting into the space.
Bite-Correcting Appliances
Some appliances are used to help guide the bite and improve the way the upper and lower jaws relate to one another. These may form part of treatment in growing patients or be used alongside braces as part of a broader treatment plan.
There are fixed options including the Herbst appliance or removable options including the twin block.
Retainers
Retainers are used after active orthodontic treatment to help maintain the final result and keep the teeth in their new positions. They are an important part of protecting the long-term stability of the smile.
